august in review: camping

Wow! I can't believe that August is at an end and that the summer is, for all intents and purposes, practically over. We've had a busy & fun month visiting with family from NJ, going on vacations and day trips, welcoming back a nephew from his mission and getting all prepared for school. I have a ton of pics to post and all kinds of stories to tell, so I'll be updating this blog in the next few days. This one is about our camping trip to Palisade State Park.

We love camping there--we've camped there lots before and visit Palisade at least once a year because it really does have something for everyone. However, this year our trip was cut short due to tent issues. When we got there and started pitching our tent, it became apparent very quickly that it was moldy (even though we've never been rained on and always stored it away dry--and upon researching online, turns out that this has happened to several people). So we ran to the nearest--haha--Walmart and bought a new one. It collapsed before the second night. Ugh. At least we had a lot of fun during the day swimming, paddle-boating and four wheeling.

Our "new" tent (since returned) at our lovely little lake-side site the first day...

...and at the end of the second day. Gene wants a pop-up trailer now.

Sweet little Emma sporting her head gear for 4-wheeling with the cousins.

Yours truly after 4-wheeling with hubby and Jeff & Felicia for a couple hours and being sprayed with mud (and hubs nearly being impaled by branches)--fun times!

My kiddos and the cousins around the campfire making s'mores.

Little miss Morgan after swimming in the lake and munching on some goodies.

Emma was able to swim really well with the help of her body glove and some flippers, she was proud of herself in spite of her expression here.

Sarah loved jumping in the lake from the platforms and going 4-wheeling with Lysette & Alyssa. She's so pretty in this pic, I think!

There were tons of dragon flies close to our tent site. We also found a giant goldfish, a mother snake birthing baby snakes and lots of minnows in the lake.

A dragon fly up close and personal (I love my camera!).
