the fingah

So... this is probably more for me to have medical documentation/journal than anything else, but here's the scoop on my fingah (say it like an angry Italian lady).

Like I said in my last post I injured my finger while tubing at Soldier Hollow and attempting to slow down the tube before crashing into some kids. I succeeded at avoiding the kids, but my hand hit the concrete-hard snow in the process and jammed my finger. Luckily it was at the end of the day so we were able to enjoy ourselves up to that point. After a couple days of waiting and watching my finger to see if the swelling would go down I decided to hit the InstaCare for an opinion. The Dr. took an X-ray and discovered that it was fractured and dislocated and referred me to a hand specialist at Alta View.

The hand specialist numbed it, tugged on it and put it in a splint and took more X-rays and discovered that it was still dislocated, which told him that the ligaments were also torn and that it required surgery (sutures and pinning). They had to cut off my wedding ring. Sad. Surgery was a little surreal, as it was a partial general anesthesia and as I was coming out of it I could hear sounds of the pin being cut, the doctors talking about going on a cruise, etc. My hand was in a splint, then a cast, and now a splint again that will last for another 6 weeks. Yesterday I got the pin removed (holy hell that hurt!) and today I started hand occupational therapy for range of motion. It is very stiff and hard to bend and hurts, but I'm supposed to warm it up first and then massage it for about 5 minutes 10 times a day. All of this seems sooo CRAZY for such a small appendage, but they say I'll never be able to bend it if I don't start now.

My ring finger all swollen the day after tubing.

Waaaaaah! My cut wedding ring. :(

Xray of my finger post-op and the pin through all 3 bones.
The tip of the pin.

The Dr. said the ligaments were 'blown'. This is 8 stitches later post-op.

My hand all bruised and swollen

The pin (compared to my index finger) and after the Dr. bent the tip because I wanted to keep it.

The splint that I need to wear for another month.

snow day

A couple weeks ago we took a 'snow day' from school and attended the K12 field trip to Soldier Hollow to go cross-country skiing and tubing. (I haven't posted about it until now because it's hard to type with a broken finger--but that's another post.)

Anyway we had a blast! Sarah and Gene went cross-country skiing while I stayed in the lodge w/ the little ones and about an hour & a half later we all went tubing. They even had Morgan-sized tubes! The great thing about Soldier Hollow is they have a zip line to drag you and your tube back up to the top of the hill--which is wonderful because the hills are much steeper and longer than the pics indicate.

After about 4 hours we were sufficiently cold, worn out and hungry so we hit Arby's in Heber on the way home. BTW, I could live in Heber Valley in a heart beat! It's beautiful and so close to the mountains and Strawberry lake and Midway & Park City--love, love, love it!!!

Sarah cross-country skiing. Cutie pie!

Sweet Emma being pulled up hill by the zip line (Sarah, Gene & Morgan behind her).

We went down tied together and spun all over the place!

Emma warmed up to the thrill of it all pretty quickly!

Sarah had a blast, as did Morgan (over Sarah's shoulder laughing). I spent most of my time going down backwards, but I was just happy to NOT break my camera! ;)

three is therrific

Darn it! I entirely blame Facebook for the lack of updates & posts on this blog. It's so easy to throw a couple lines out there every other day or so on FB and feel like I've journaled, but it's not the same. The reason I keep this blog is to serve as a journal and e-photo album. Shame on me! I need to take a FB break!

My little miss Morgan turned 3 years old the end of February. How could I NOT post about my cutie-pie?! For her birthday Gene took the day off and we went to the park and picked up her new little kitchen. She also got a mini-blender & Zhu Zhu hamster. Then we came home and sang 'happy birthday' and ate homemade cake and ice cream. Grandma came over the next day and gave Morgie the 'Snow White' DVD.

Morgan was my biggest baby and has been my squishy sweetheart since the minute I held her in my arms! She's so smart & already knows a third of the alphabet. She counts like: '1,2,3,4,5,6,9'. And she has an attitude sometimes and loves to say "No. You...(fill in the blank)." ie: "Morgan, eat your dinner."..."No. You eat dinner." "Morgan, you're cute."..."No. You cute." "Morgan, I love you."..."No. I love you." You get the idea. Silly little girl! I can't believe that she's THREE, but she'll always be my baby! I love you punkin!!!

a day at the park

Last Friday Gene took the day off to celebrate Morgan's birthday (pics soon to come) and since the weather was nice, and in addition to picking up her little kitchen, we took our girls and some of their friends to our big neighborhood park. They had a blast until it started getting windy and cool--darn February. I can't wait for it to warm up outside and turn green again! I need to get my booty on the treadmill to be prepared for chasing my kiddos around the park this summer. Incidentally I'm also growing out my leg hair (whoa, it's getting scary) so that it will be long enough for a waxing in early May--just in time for the summer, when I will also get a pedi. See? I can't wait! Meanwhile enjoy some teaser pics:

Morgan loved having this little "cave" under the bridge all to herself

Is it just me or does this behavior look too pre-teen? They just sat there talking and would run and play only occasionally. Ugh, Sarah's growing up too fast!

six is sweet

Where does the time go? I'm amazed that my Emma-girl is now 6 years old, in Kindergarten, reading, riding a two-wheeler and smack in the middle of childhood! *sob* :(

Last Saturday we held Emma's birthday party and invited her little friends from church. She wanted a chocolate on chocolate cake and purple & red balloons. She also wanted Hannah Montana decorations, but I was able to get by with just the color combination because, despite my best effort to sway my girls otherwise, they are now Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus fans. Ugh! Anyway, the party was a success--they played games, danced, ate food and opened presents. Between this and the skate party the other day Emma's birthday weekend has been "the best EVER!" I love you, my sweet-cheeks!

The night of her actual birthday we gave her the Hannah Montana movie DVD.

K12 Valentine skate party

Time again for another school party/field trip. Every year the local K12 families get together at the skate/bounce house across town. So last Thursday we went--the kids bring about 60-70 valentines to hand out and their own boxes/bags to receive valentines as well as a treat to share. I started feeling a little foggy/sick that day so I'm going to let most of the pictures speak for themselves. Gene took the day off and got to join us. He helped Morgan hand out her valentines. All the families went out to the skate rink to do the Hokey Pokey and Funky Chicken, and after eating some munchies we just followed the kids as they played and played and played. It was a great time had by all.
